Petrochemical investment of $ 12 billion

Sasa Polyester will build integrated petrochemical plants and a port for the use of the plants in Yumurtalık, Adana with an investment of approximately $12 billion.

An Integrated Petrochemical Production plant and Port Project will be realized in Adana by Sasa Polyester Sanayi Anonim Şirketi which produces polyester fiber, filament, polyester based polymers, intermediate products and specialty products. According to the news by enerjigunlugu.net, one of Turkey’s largest industrial investments to date to be implemented on the same spot in one go, will be realized in Akyuva and Demirtaş Quarters of Yumurtalık District. The total investment amount of Sasa Polyester’s project is calculated to be approximately 12 billion dollars.

Reduce external dependence

With the investment of the new Integrated Petrochemical Plants, Sasa Polyester aims to avert the importation of PTA (Pure Terephthalic Acid) and MEG (Mono Ethylene Glycol) which are the main raw materials of polyester and other products currently being produced in its existing facilities. Integrated plants are also pointing to a capacity to reduce external dependence on imports of finished and semi-finished petrochemical products in Turkey considerably.

Will be implemented in three phases
Within the scope of the Integrated Petrochemical Production Facility and Port Project by Sasa Polyester Sanayi AŞ, facilities and structures supportive and/or complementary to each other will be constructed on land and sea. On the land side of the project, there will be petrochemical production and treatment plants, auxiliary facilities such as electricity and steam production, railway line and maintenance facilities etc.

To be completed in 10 years

On the seaside of the petrochemical complex, filling and dredging operations will be carried out and scaffolding, pipelines for liquid cargo handling, container storage area, maintenance workshops and water intake structure and deep-sea discharge line will be constructed. The installation and commissioning of the mentioned facilities and structures will take place at different project phases and will cover a total investment period of 10 years.

Mains power will be used at the beginning
In the first phase, the power requirement of the power plant will be provided from the grid and with the construction of a Cracking facility, power and steam will be obtained from materials such as gas that will be released from some plants as a by-product. At the end of the last phase of the project, the consumption of natural gas will be reduced by burning the by-products (off-gas etc.) from the production.
